Imagen AI Review: Can Imagen AI Really Edit Like You?

Tips and Advice

If you’ve been around here for a minute, you know I care deeply about two things.
Creating consistent, true-to-you edits. And protecting my time.

Because here’s the truth. I love shooting. I love serving my clients. I even love the quiet rhythm of editing. But I do not love spending hours and hours behind my computer when I could be with my kids, planning a session, or mentoring another photographer.

So when people started asking me, “Have you tried Imagen AI?” I was curious. Then skeptical. Then curious again.

Could Imagen AI really edit like me? Or was this just another trendy tool that would leave me fixing everything anyway?

Today I’m sharing my honest, detailed Imagen AI review. No fluff. No hype. Just what I’ve actually experienced as a working photographer.

And if you’re newer here, hi. I’m Kellie, a North Dakota photographer and educator who’s passionate about helping photographers grow strong, profitable businesses. If you want more education like this, you can explore my resources here.

And if you love learning while you edit (same), my podcast lives here.

Alright. Let’s talk about Imagen AI.

What Is Imagen AI and Why Are Photographers Talking About It?

Imagen AI is an AI photo editing software built specifically for photographers. It connects to Lightroom Classic and edits your images based on your personal editing style.

Not a generic preset. Not someone else’s look.

Your look.

That’s why it’s everywhere right now in photo editing software reviews and photo editor software review posts. Photographers are busy. We’re drowning in thousands of images per week. So when something promises to cut editing time in half, people pay attention.

I did too.

Because let’s be honest. One of the most asked questions right now is “Can AI edit photos like a professional photographer?”.

How Imagen AI Learns Your Editing Style

Here’s where things get interesting.

Imagen AI doesn’t just apply a preset across your gallery. It studies your past work. You upload catalogs of edited images. The system analyzes your adjustments. Exposure, white balance, contrast, tone curve, color balance, everything.

Then it builds a personal profile based on how you edit.

When I first set mine up, I was nervous. I uploaded multiple catalogs so it could see how I handle different lighting situations. Outdoor sun. Indoor tungsten. Cloudy sessions. Reception lighting.

The more examples you give it, the smarter it gets.

If you only upload a small or inconsistent sample, your results won’t be strong. This tool reflects you. So if your editing has been inconsistent, that will show.

Which honestly is a good thing. It forces you to tighten up your signature style.

My Real Workflow Using Aftershoot + Imagen AI

Here’s my exact workflow with Aftershoot + Imagen AI.

  1. Before I even send a gallery to Imagen AI, I cull with Aftershoot.

And honestly? This combination has changed everything for me.

Imagen AI has it’s own culling feature for a fee, but I use Aftershoot to quickly sort through my sessions. Instead of manually clicking through hundreds of nearly identical images, I let AI narrow it down first. Then I step in and make the final creative calls.

If you’ve ever wondered what the best AI culling software was for photographers, Aftershoot is worth looking into.

  1. Once I finalize my selects, I send the catalog to Imagen AI.

It processes everything and sends it back fully edited. Usually within minutes.

That still blows my mind.

Then I go through and fine-tune.

I’d say 80 to 90 percent of the images need little to no adjustment. I might tweak exposure slightly. Sometimes adjust warmth. Occasionally fix a tricky mixed lighting scenario.

But the heavy lifting? Done.

Before Imagen AI, I’d spend hours batch editing, syncing settings, then fine-tuning. Now I spend more time refining instead of building from scratch.

That shift alone has been huge for me.

If you’ve been looking for how to speed up your photo editing workflow, this is honestly one of the biggest changes you can make.

The Pros of Using Imagen AI for Photographers

Let’s break it down clearly.

1. It Saves Serious Time

This is the obvious one. Imagen AI has cut my editing time dramatically. Especially during busy season.

And when you run a photography business, time is money. Or time is rest. Or time is family (all important).

2. It Keeps My Style Consistent

Consistency builds brand trust. Clients hire me because of my editing style. When I’m exhausted, I can drift. Imagen AI helps keep my look steady across galleries.

If you’ve ever wondered how to keep a consistent editing style, this tool supports that goal.

3. It Learns and Improves

The more I use Imagen AI, the better it gets. I can submit feedback. I can update my profile. It grows with me.

4. It’s Built for Photographers

This isn’t random AI software. It understands batch editing. It understands volume.

In a world full of general AI tools, that matters.

The Limitations You Should Know Before Relying on AI Editing

Now for the honest part of this Imagen AI review.

Imagen AI is powerful. But it’s not magic.

  • It won’t fix bad lighting decisions.
  • It won’t correct inconsistent shooting.
  • And it won’t make creative choices for you.

If your exposure is all over the place in camera, it will reflect that. If you shift your style every month, it won’t know which direction to follow.

And sometimes tricky lighting still needs hands-on work. Dance floor lighting. Harsh backlight. Super dark barns. Those moments still need you.

How Imagen AI Fits Into a Consistent Editing Style

Here’s something I care deeply about as an educator.

Tools should strengthen your style. Not blur it.

When I mentor photographers, we talk about building a signature look. A repeatable system. A strong foundation. Imagen AI works best when you already know who you are as an editor.

If you’re still experimenting, that’s okay. But I’d recommend locking in your base editing process first.

Then let Imagen AI scale it.

It’s like having an assistant who studies your work and replicates it. But you’re still the creative director.

Let’s Talk Imagen AI Pricing (Because That’s What You’re Really Wondering)

Alright. Let’s get practical.

When most photographers search “Imagen AI pricing,” they’re trying to figure out one thing. Is this actually affordable?

Here’s how it currently works.

Pay-As-You-Go Plan

Imagen AI offers a pay-as-you-go option at USD$0.05 per photo.

There’s no long-term commitment. You simply pay for what you edit. However, there is a minimum USD$7 per month added to your editing credits.

This plan includes:

  • Unlimited Personal AI Profiles
  • Access to all Talent AI Profiles
  • 24/7 support
  • 100GB of cloud storage free for 3 months

If you’re a seasonal photographer or just want to test things slowly, this option gives you flexibility.

Annual Plans (Save 10%)

If you’re higher volume, the annual plans bring the cost per image down.

The 18k annual plan is USD$67.50 per month, billed annually. That covers 18,000 images per year and includes:

  • Discounted price per photo
  • Unlimited Personal AI Profiles
  • Access to all Talent AI Profiles
  • 24/7 support
  • 100GB cloud storage free for 3 months

They also offer 36k ($127.50 USD per month) and 72k ($240 USD per month) image plans for even larger studios.

If you’re shooting multiple clients per month, this can make a lot of sense.

Enterprise Plan

For studios editing over 100,000 photos per year, they offer a custom enterprise plan with:

  • Custom adaptations
  • Dedicated customer success manager
  • Personalized plan
  • API capabilities

Most solo photographers won’t need this. But large teams might.

What About the Extra AI Tools?

Now here’s something important that many photo editing software reviews skip over.

Imagen AI also offers additional AI tools that can be added per photo.

Things like:

  • Straighten
  • Crop
  • Subject mask
  • Smooth skin
  • Whiten teeth
  • Perspective correction
  • HDR merge
  • Portrait crop
  • Headshot crop
  • Window pull
  • Background mask and extraction (currently free in beta)
  • Denoise (free in beta)
  • Exit sign removal (free in beta)

Most of these add-ons range from $0.01 to $0.05 USD per photo.

Personally, I don’t turn everything on. I’m still very hands-on with skin and retouching because I like control there. But if you’re searching “can imagen ai do skin smoothing?” or “does imagen ai crop automatically?” the answer is yes, if you enable those tools.

Just be mindful that add-ons increase your cost per image.

They also offer culling (starting from $12/month), cloud storage ($3.30 for 500GB), and export to a gallery for free.

So… Is Imagen AI Worth the Cost?

Here’s how I look at it.

Let’s say I shoot a senior session and deliver 75 fully edited images. On the pay-as-you-go plan, that’s about USD$3.75 for the pay-as-you-go plan, before add-ons.

For a full family session where I deliver 100 images, that’s about USD$5.

Even if I multiply that across a busy month, the cost stays manageable.

Now ask yourself this.

How many hours would it take you to fully edit a gallery manually?

If it’s 2 to 4 hours per session, what is your time worth?

When I run the math, Imagen AI pricing makes sense for my business. Especially during peak senior season when sessions stack quickly.

For me, time back equals creative energy back. And that matters more than anything.

If you want to test it yourself, you can get 1500 free edits with my link here.

That’s enough to truly see if it fits your workflow.

Final Thoughts: Imagen AI Review

If you’re a high volume photographer. If you feel buried in editing. If you’ve searched “best AI photo editing software for photographers” or “how to outsource photo editing without losing my style,” then Imagen AI is absolutely worth testing.

It’s not about replacing your artistry. It’s about protecting your energy.

And that matters.

Because burnout is real in this industry. Long nights. Endless culling. Pressure to deliver fast. If a tool helps you serve your clients well and still have margin in your life, that’s powerful.

If you want to see more behind-the-scenes of how I run my photography business, you can follow me on Instagram here.

I’m always cheering for photographers who want to grow smarter, not just busier.

At the end of the day, Imagen AI is a tool. A really smart one. But you are still the artist. You are still the storyteller. You are still the reason your clients book.

And if a tool helps you protect that creative spark instead of draining it, I’m all for it.
