Sheila Goehring is the next feature on our woman-owned business series. With over 20 years of entrepreneurship experience, I was thrilled to get to sit down to chat with her and photograph her in her element at 26th Street Liquor. Sheila had lots to say about what she’s learned over two decades as a business owner here in Williston, ND.
Sheila’s journey began in 2000 when she moved from Bismarck to purchase and operate a local bowling alley. Five years later, she welcomed her daughter, Savannah, and continued entrepreneurship while balancing motherhood. For the last 16 years, she has owned and operated 26th Street Liquors and added a secondary location two hours away on Broadway in Minot, ND. While Sheila makes it look easy, her journey hasn’t been without hard work and late nights. In fact, while she was answering some of my questions about her business journey, her daughter reminded her that sleep is often hard to come by when you’ve got a business to run. Operating hours for a brick-and-mortar storefront are just the tip of the iceberg!
The lack of sleep paid off and her determination & business savvy haven’t gone unnoticed. Williston Economic Development took note of Sheila’s success and named her business the 2021 Woman-Owned Business of the Year! “We strive to offer the best customer service in the industry. We pride ourselves on being locally owned and operated,” Sheila said of serving the Williston area at multiple locations.
Like the other women in my spotlight series, Sheila explained that balancing mom life while having a busy career was a challenge. Similar to the approach she took when she was still in the trenches of motherhood, Sheila focuses on having quality, intentional time during visits with her daughter now that she’s an empty nester. She’s got a little more time for self-care these days, but that’s one of the things she wishes she had prioritized at the beginning of her career.
“Self-care is so important and everything will always work out,” Sheila answered when asked what she wishes she could tell her younger self.
In the coming years, she hopes to be able to expand tasting to provide more educational opportunities for staff as well as customers. Geared towards providing libations for all of the events in life big or small, Sheila loves being able to serve our community during some of their biggest celebrations. If you’re in the area (and over the age of 21), stop in to take a look at their wide selection of drinks & don’t be shy! Sheila’s knowledgeable and friendly staff are happy to answer any questions, help you locate a specific product, or even make recommendations. She’s got a website in the works, but for now you can find her on social media:

I love coffee, diet Coke, and sauvignon blanc.
I’m an avid reader but I’m not sure I could choose just one. I use Audible, Kindle, and paper books. I’m actually a member of two book clubs.
We love to play all kinds of games when we gather as a family. Bingo, cards, dice, and board games.
