A Photographer’s Palm Springs Guide for An Iconic Trip

Travel

Palm Springs has become one of my favorite places to visit this year. What started as a photography retreat with friends from my mentorship program turned into a love affair with this vibrant desert town. I returned shortly after for a coworking trip, and now I’m dreaming of hosting travel sessions here. Between its natural beauty, mid-century charm, and endless options of things to do while you’re there, Palm Springs is at the top of my bucket list for travel sessions!

Things to Do in Palm Springs

Here’s the thing about travel sessions: the photos are the cherry on top! Exploring a new area and enjoying the attractions that you can only find in that city is one of my favorite things. I just so happen to be there with my camera to capture the moments for you so you can be truly present. (Don’t worry, we have planned shoots too that are dedicated to the photos). There’s no shortage of things to do while you’re visiting Palm Springs, and it just so happens to be one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever experienced!

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

Take a ride up to Mount San Jacinto for breathtaking views and cooler temperatures. I can imagine the beautiful photos that could be taken here for seniors, families, engagements, or even maternity photos!

Moorten Botanical Garden

Explore a variety of desert plants in this charming, family-owned garden.

Palm Springs Art Museum

Discover contemporary art, classic works, and Native American artifacts.

Mid-Century Modern Architecture Tour

If home design is your thing, this is the activity for you. Join a guided tour to see iconic homes and buildings that define the city’s MCM aesthetic. These homes are stunning time capsules!

Joshua Tree National Park

Just a short drive away, this park offers stunning rock formations and star-filled skies. I shot senior photos here a few years ago & it remains one of my favorites!

The Best Restaurants in Palm Springs

Parker

This was my one request when we visited because they have the BEST breakfast! It’s a restaurant in a hotel, when you arrive they bring a tall shot glass of their smoothie of the day. (You can order a full version if you like it!) We make reservations for breakfast because it can be busy, & when it’s nice out, we like to sit outside & eat. The hotel it is in is my friend Natasha’s favorite place to stay, well before they bought their house there. It is a whole VIBE itself.

Cheeky’s

The hype is real, and so are the cinnamon rolls. These aren’t your average rolls, flaky croissant dough, cinnamon-sugar goodness, and just enough icing to make you feel like you’re doing something a little indulgent (which you are). Pair that with their famous bacon flight and thank me later. Get there early, it fills up fast.

The Farm

A little slice of Europe right in the middle of Palm Springs. Think colorful umbrellas, rustic tables, and the kind of food that makes you slow down and savor. We had lattes and French toast in the garden, and I swear my stress melted with every bite.

Eight4Nine

Chic, white interior with pops of hot pink = the perfect dinner vibe. This place is equal parts glam and relaxed, which makes it the perfect girls’ night spot. The food was next-level, the cocktails were gorgeous, and our server was so friendly I almost asked them to come hang out with us after.

The Tropicale

We had dinner inside here, and the entire place gave retro supper club meets tropical vacation. I had the chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn & it was everything I wanted. Classic comfort food, but elevated. Also: the raspberry lemon drop martini? Dangerous. Like, too-good-to-have-just-one level of dangerous.

Thai Smile

If you know me, you know I keep it simple & yes, I ordered grilled chicken and rice. But my friend, Colie? She’s still talking about this place. She literally said she would come back to Palm Springs just to eat here again. That’s how good it was. Everything was full of flavor, perfectly cooked, and comforting in the best way. It’s a low-key spot, but trust your taste buds will be obsessed.

Elmer’s

This one surprised me in the best way. A classic diner feel with a menu full of comfort food, but the German Pancake was the real star. Puffy, golden, and served with lemon wedges and powdered sugar, it was tangy, buttery, and absolutely perfect. I’d fly back just for that.

I can’t wait to return and explore more of what this incredible place has to offer. And on that note…
