Senior Sunday blog posts are some of my favorite stories to tell, and this one about Hudson Krieger? It’s packed with everything that makes my heart beat faster as a senior photographer in Williston ND—wide open skies, Badlands beauty, and a senior who showed up fully himself.
Hudson’s senior session was the kind that makes you stop and say: THIS is why I do what I do. We headed out to a hidden gem near the American Legion—25 minutes from town but it feels like you drove hours into the Badlands. White clay buttes. Orange and black streaked rocks. Rolling tall grass. And nobody around. Just us, the land, the light, and the story we were there to tell.
This senior Sunday blog wouldn’t be complete without talking about the vibe that night. It was GORGEOUS. We took our time. His mom, Onesti (who also happens to be one of my dear friends), came along—and I always love when moms are part of the memory-making. Hudson brought his cowboy hat, his bow, and his gun. It was all very him. And it felt more like hanging out with an old friend than a photo session. I’ve known this family for years. Our boys played travel basketball together from the time they were in grade school, and now they’re both working a HVAC job together. Bittersweet doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Everything about Hudson screams outdoorsman. He hunts. He fishes. He dreams about Montana and loves the scent of pine trees. So we let all of that energy lead the way. This wasn’t about just snapping a few photos. It was about capturing the stillness, the grit, the pride, and the wild-hearted nature of a senior who’s ready to carve out his own path. Trade school is on deck for Hudson, and honestly, the world needs more people like him: steady, skilled, and all heart.
And yes—we had his new puppy with us too. (Can we talk about how much personality that dog has?) I swear the pup was posing better than some humans. That little guy is going to be Hudson’s sidekick for a long time to come.
If you’re scrolling through this senior Sunday blog and wondering where the heck to start with your own senior’s photos, here’s the truth: Start with them. Not Pinterest. Not the trends. Just them. What do they love? What makes them light up? Hudson’s shoot worked so well because it felt like him from the first frame to the last.
Senior photos can be whatever you want them to be—a quiet celebration, a bold declaration, or a little bit of both. Hudson’s session was all that and more. So if you’re ready to book your own unforgettable photography experience, let’s get it on the calendar. I’ll bring the camera and the snacks (peach rings, anyone?), you bring the story.
