Room 222 Airbnb | Editorial Indoor Portraits

Last night was Eden Mortenson’s senior session, and we started in a place that already felt personal, Room 222, his mom Mechelle’s Airbnb.

The second I walked in, I knew we were going to have fun. The brick wall, the way Mechelle has decorated it, the furniture, the mood it all had this cool, intentional vibe. And the light. The light coming through had that harsh, cinematic edge that I love. It felt like movie lighting, dramatic in the best way.

We moved around the space using different furniture, backgrounds, and pockets of light.

After we wrapped up inside, we drove about 20 minutes out of town toward the Trenton bottoms. Completely different setting. Wide open land, soft evening light, and just enough breeze to keep things moving even if the mosquitoes were determined to test our patience.

Out there, Eden brought pieces of his world with him. The geese decoys were set up, and we worked through a few setups around them. He had one of his hunting chairs and that camouflage blanket that basically makes him disappear.

He brought his gun and his dog. She’s about two years old and could not have been more excited to be outside. She bounced in and out of frame, full of energy, and then would settle in just long enough for us to grab what we needed. Watching the two of them together felt natural, she knew exactly who her person was.

Later, his parents came out. I grabbed a few photos of Eden with his dad, Joe. Then we pulled Mechelle in, and I photographed the three of them together. The sky kept getting softer as we went, and even with the mosquitoes, it was one of those nights where everything just lined up.

We wrapped up as the light dipped low, Eden standing out there with his family and his dog, the fields stretching behind him.
