f there’s one thing I love about photographing seniors, it’s when their session feels like them—their personality, their passions, and their story. Cami’s senior session last July was all of that and more, set against the backdrop of Sandhill Performance Horses, where she spends her days riding and working cows on her work horse, Little Miss. And to make it even more special, Cami is my niece, which made this session close to my heart.
From the moment we arrived, it felt like the perfect North Dakota summer evening—the canola fields were bursting with yellow blooms, and the air carried that unmistakable hum of a warm summer night (though we did have a few pesky mosquitoes and flies to battle!). When we pulled up, Cami was already hard at work, getting Little Miss ready for the session. It’s clear that this wasn’t just a photoshoot for her—it was a chance to capture a slice of her everyday life, the life she loves.
One thing that stood out during Cami’s senior session was how willing she was to try anything. Whether it was working with Little Miss, hopping into side-by-sides, or slipping into dresses from my client closet, she was up for it all. I brought along a few dresses I thought would look amazing on her, and she made each one shine—but my personal favorite was the teal dress. It popped beautifully against the golden evening light and those vibrant canola fields.
Even with a few challenges, like needing to cut the horse portion short, Cami took everything in stride. That easygoing, adventurous spirit of hers shone through in every shot. The location itself added to the magic—wide open spaces & gorgeous summer blooms.
What I love most about Cami’s senior session is how personal it felt. This wasn’t just about photos; it was about freezing a moment in time for Cami and her family—a moment of her final summer as a high schooler, surrounded by everything she loves most. And as her aunt, it meant so much to me to help capture this chapter of her story. From the golden light to the wide-open fields, everything about this session felt like a perfect reflection of who Cami is.
Cami, thank you for letting me be part of this special milestone. You’re hardworking, easygoing, and so much fun to photograph, and I can’t wait to see what this next chapter holds for you!
