Senior year isn’t just about graduation—it’s about celebrating milestones and creating memories that last a lifetime. For Andrew’s senior travel session in NYC and Charleston, we packed our bags, hit two iconic cities, and created a once-in-a-lifetime experience together. Not only did we explore new places, but we also made core memories that I know we’ll both cherish forever.
Our New York City session was packed with energy and iconic backdrops. We kicked off the adventure in Hoboken and jumped straight into the vibrant pulse of NYC. From catching a Broadway show (The Book of Mormon) to experiencing the thrill of a live comedy club, every moment was an adventure.
The next day, with Drew and his friend Tristyn, we hit the streets for an all-day photo journey—and thank goodness we had Real Tours of NYC with us! I’ve done several tours with them before and they never disappoint. This was the first time I booked both a walking tour and a private car service through them, and it made all the difference. It was blazing hot that day, and because we wanted to hit so many locations across the city, having a local expert navigate traffic and parking while also knowing the best photo spots was a total win.
Even with the car, it was a long (and sweaty!) day—but so worth it. We hit up Central Park, Greenwich Village, SoHo, Times Square, and the Brooklyn Bridge. Drew’s cool, confident presence against the dramatic NYC skyline made every shot unforgettable.
Next up was Charleston, South Carolina—a destination that brought its own unique flavor to our senior session. The adventure started early with a whirlwind flight at 6:15 a.m. and a short connection in Minneapolis. Once on the ground, we managed to rent a car for the day (thankfully, hourly rentals saved the day) and hit the heat, which was almost 103°F!
We started our Charleston day at Poogan’s Porch near King Street (across from that famous pink hotel whose name I can’t quite recall). After a quick car change to beat the heat, we enjoyed a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns, and a mouthwatering cheeseburger—while Mom went for a chicken sandwich. With a grocery run and a few hours of rest back at the house, the day slowly found its pace.
That evening, after ordering pizza from our favorite Italian restaurant and treating Drew to sushi on King Street, we embarked on a haunted carriage ride through the city. Parking was a challenge and a little pricey, but the spooky fun made it all worthwhile.
The following days in Charleston were a blend of leisure and exploration. Drew found time for a morning workout, and we spent our days shopping along King Street, enjoying the beach, and indulging in local delights. We even squeezed in a sunrise session—taking advantage of the cooler early morning hours at a location famous for its Pineapple Fountain and Rainbow Row. When it was time to wind down, we discovered hidden vintage shops and a delightful seafood dinner at 167 Raw, an oyster bar with an unbeatable atmosphere (even if it meant a 25-minute wait).
Travel senior sessions with your child are more than just a photo shoot—they’re about creating new memories together. Photographing Andrew in two of my favorite cities was a reminder of the precious moments we share and the adventures that lie ahead. It’s all about embracing the journey, from the bustling streets of New York City to the charming avenues of Charleston.
I’m incredibly proud of you, Drew. You are one of the most goal-driven people I’ve ever known—always setting your sights high, meeting your goals, and then somehow pushing past them. Watching you do that at your age is honestly inspiring. You make me so proud, not just because of what you’ve accomplished, but because of who you are.
Here’s to making more memories, celebrating every victory, and cherishing these moments forever.
